i lost all my pictures taken from my digicam in the last 3 years. No trace of them on my office comp, on my usb hard disk, on my laptop and definitely erased from my digicam !!!

1. Never clean up your comp..
2. Never have too many backups, none of them help when you need them most..
3. Never take pictures( this one is just a filler... somehow I need atleast 3 points silly me...)

As for pics from ur digicam, there are freeware utils available that will help u retrieve stuff off the Memory Card. Try and savage something atleast!!!!
On my last trip to Dubai, i clicked heaps on fotos and left for melbourne. I arrived and the next day my house was broken into and my camera stolen, with it went all my pics too:(:(:(

And reminds me to back up all my fotos lying in everything from my cam to CDs to Ipod etc to a safe location :)

We had been on trip to delhi, agra, amrutsar, wagha border and the great taj mahal.
When we reached taj mahal it was poring heavily. so everybody had taken shelter and no body in the path way, the guide, a smart fellow, convinced us that it was the best time to watch the Taj.
We sat on the seat of taj mahal where all the dignitaries take their snaps we could get the snap exactly the same way as no body in between. one of the most beatiful pictures.
When we reached bangalore after a great trip with loads of pics, the memory card was corrupt. poof no photos now. we lost all of them.
i would do anything to get them back. i totally understand ur feelings.:(((
thanks ppl for ur heart-felt sympathies but I know am not alone in this world :)- shud try some salvage technique..
not sure if you are still trying to recover these... there are some norton utilities that unerase, undelete etc from your filesystem so long as you have not hard formatted your disk since... remember when u delete a file, all thats done is its storage is released for another file and updated in the allocation tables. so technically all data is still intact if only its recovered... good luck!
